29 September 2025 marks the sixth edition of the, International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW), established by the United Nations General Assembly.
This observance aims to mobilise governments, the private sector, civil society, academia and citizens to strengthen and amplify efforts to reduce food loss and waste along the entire agrifood chain, in accordance with the UN 2030 Agenda’s Sustainability Goals.
The central global event, organised by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) and FAO, will be held online on 29 September from 13:30 to 15:30 CEST.
To mark the occasion, on 25 September the Waste Watcher International Observatory will present a preview of the Special Report on Waste in Italy with data updated to August 2025 and a focus on the link between climate crises, international conflicts and food-related behaviour.
