The ‘Made in Italy’ bill: agrifood protection measures

On 31 May, Italy’s Council of Ministers approved a bill containing important measures to protect and promote ‘Made in Italy’ products, aiming to encourage enterprises creating high-quality Italian products by providing new resources, protections and skills. A multidisciplinary ‘Made in Italy High School’ has been established, as have National Made in Italy Day (15 April) and the National Strategic Made in Italy Fund, with an initial grant of a thousand million euros. Alongside other innovations to protect our products, an official ‘Made in Italy’ label, certifying Italian origin, is planned.
Measures dedicated to agrifood and tourism include bolstering the NutrInform Battery labelling system, a new certification for high-quality Italian restaurants abroad, and economic support for enforcing Italian geographical indications (for produce, food, wine and other beverages) and fostering biodiversity, traditional customs and rural landscapes. Important measures to combat counterfeit ‘Made in Italy’ products, worth 120 thousand million euros worldwide, include reorganisation of the competent offices and a more efficient system of penalties, including penal ones.
